This person could be a scientist, an author, an artist, or an inventor, to name a few. You will learn the STORIES of people from the past through a living method rather than memorising dates from a dry textbook. 


You will also receive a fun newspaper article about each historical figure that provides extra information, pictures, and details of their later life PLUS a quote card featuring an inspiring or significant saying known to this person!
 
 
Post from the Past is a pre-paid subscription.
 
You will receive one vintage letter per month, and you have the option to cancel at anytime.
   
Each letter is painstakingly researched and is professionally printed onto a beautiful quality vintage style paper.
  
  

When are letters posted?

All subscription letters are posted on the 5th of each month.
However, if you have a new subscription and your order is placed after 5th of the month, then your FIRST letter will be posted 2-3 days after ordering.
Your subsequent subscription letters will be posted on the 5th of each month after that.

When will I be billed?

Your FIRST payment will be taken on the date that you place your order and future payments will be taken on the 5th of each month thereafter.

WHAT AGE ARE POST FROM THE PAST LETTERS FOR?
 

The wonderful thing about these letters is that they suit a variety of ages from children to adults alike! Gather together for a time of CONNECTION, LEARNING, and JOY. 

Every child is different and abilities vary, but I would suggest that 5/6 years old is a good age to begin using these letters. Younger children can have the letters read out to them like stories, and older children can read for themselves (see how to get the most from your letters page).

Children of any age will simply love to receive their very own letters in the post!

  

WHAT IF MY LETTER DOESN'T ARRIVE?
 
Please allow 3 weeks for your letter to arrive from date of ordering.

If your letter hasn't arrived within this time frame, please contact me and I happily re-post another letter.

WHY POST FROM THE PAST?

I am a home educating mama of two with an abundance of learning materials, but when I took a closer look at our home-school, I found that we were desperately lacking history related resources. This prompted me to create a way to bring history to life; by capturing the imagination and presenting facts, while also telling a story. I believe that children learn much better this way as they are engaged in the learning process and having fun.

 

"I want my children to learn the stories of people from the past and not just memorise dates on a timeline."


I don’t want to present my children with dry facts from a textbook. Instead, I want to shape their hearts and minds and at the same time, provide you with something unique that will add value to your home education too, and I believe I have achieved this through my new venture: ‘Post from the Past’.

 

I personally graduated with a 2:1 English Literature degree and I then went on to complete my training to become an English teacher. During one of my teacher training observations I taught War Poetry, and I will never forget the kind words that my university tutor fed back to me. She told me that if the poet were alive today then he would be extremely happy with how I portrayed him.

This is exactly the standard that I set myself when I write Post From the Past letters. I ask myself if the person would be pleased with it.

The events are taught in a personal and living way that kids and adults alike will take pleasure and inspiration in reading whilst learning at the same time.

Of course there are books aplenty out there but I want my own children to know the stories of the worlds most incredible people or the spectacular events that made them so well known across the globe. I wish for all children to care about what they learn and to become inspired, and not just memorise a summary of key facts from a text or fact book.


 

Terms of Use:

Each Letter plus downloads are for PERSONAL use only.  Each license (purchase) is valid for one educator to use with one classroom of up to 35 children. If you wish to teach more students than this, please purchase multiple copies.

General:

-What have you learnt about each historical figure?

-Using the earth as your canvas; create a timeline of significant events using
sticks, stones, and chalk.
-Create your very own vintage letter by using a teabag to stain plain paper. Once dry, write a letter (possibly about yourself) or use as a journaling page for a character analysis or use to draw a timeline.
 

Geography:

Use a map to locate where each historical figure is from. What continent is it in? How far away is it from where you live? Have you ever visited this country? You may also wish to take a look at the flag for that particular country or colour one in.
The book Maps by Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinski is an excellent additional resource for a quick reference of countries.
 

Art:

Create your very own vintage letter by using a teabag to stain plain paper. Once dry, write a letter (possibly about yourself) or use as a journaling page for a character analysis or timeline

If your letter is from an artist, you could research paintings by the artist and study what medium they use (i.e. watercolours, oils, etc). Pick your favourite picture and have a go at creating your own version too!
 

Vocabulary:

Look up challenging words in a dictionary and discuss what each one means. You may also wish to use these as spelling practise.
 

Science:

If your letter is from a scientist, you could research scientific equipment and discover what each instrument is used for. You may also wish to have fun with some simple kid friendly science experiments. Setting up a learning space with child's microscope and nature treasure is an ideal starting place!
   

If your letter is from an astronaut then use this as an opportunity to study Space.
 

Literature:

If your letter is from an author, you may wish to read some of the books that they have written.
 

Mathematics:

Plot dates on a timeline. Research when each historical figure was born and died and work out how old they were and how many years ago this was.
  

History:

Were men and women treated the same? How did the modes of transport
differ? How was the language different?
Plot dates on a time line to see an overview of the main events in peoples
lives.



How to stain paper with a tea bag:

Brew two or three tea bags in a cup of hot water for five to 10 minutes.  Remove the tea bags from the water and allow them to cool completely before handling them. Brush the front and back of the paper evenly with a tea bag or by dipping a paintbrush into the tea and brushing it onto the paper. Allow to dry.
