Scottish-born naturalist, John Muir came to fully immerse himself in nature because of an accident, where a simple slip of a file, that almost left him blind, caused him to re-evaluate his life.

In 1903, President Roosevelt visited John Muir in Yosemite, who guided him into the wilderness, where they slept in the crisp open air of Glacier Point, chatting late into the night, and when they woke up, they were covered in a light dusting of snow! Muir Informed him of state mismanagement of the valley and excessive exploitation of its resources. Their conversations and shared joy with the beauty and magnificence of Yosemite led Roosevelt to expand federal protection of Yosemite!
