Sacagawea is possibly the most memorialized woman in the United States! With dozens of statues and monuments, Sacagawea lived a short but legendarily eventful life in the American West.

Sacagawea was a Shosone woman who accompanied the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1804-06. Remarkably, she did it all while caring for the son she bore just two months before departing.

The Lewis and Clark expedition changed American history by helping it to settle a new region, including the states of Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.
